Bruno Fernandes appears to make cryptic dig at Michael Carrick after Man United benching

Bruno Fernandes has seemingly fired another subtle dig towards Manchester United manager Michael Carrick. Last week, the United skipper hit out at the club’s tactics following the 4-1 defeat away at Como in the Champions League . He was then subsequently dropped to the bench by Carrick for Sunday’s miserable 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth. The Red Devils went on to confirm that his decision to drop Fernandes was based on ‘pure football’ reasons. But Fernandes appears to not have taken the decision well. Fernandes’ cryptic dig at Carrick Fernandes has liked a social media video which could be interpreted as a dig at Carrick for his treatment of him. The Instagram reel shows a giant preventing a boulder from crashing into some buildings in a town before the giant eventually lets it go after the townspeople turned on him. The caption read: “Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care.” Fernandes is appearing to view himself as the giant, who has been helping prevent Man United – the town – from being destroyed. The 33-year-old captain broke the Premier League ‘s assist record last season, having a hand in 30 goals altogether and leading the club to a place in the Champions League. He has also been the Red Devils’ standout player for multiple seasons despite things not going too swimmingly off the pitch. But he may feel that his treatment from the club, e.g. being dropped to the bench by Carrick , has led to him losing his care, so he is now seemingly saying if he isn’t respected, he’ll let the club get what’s coming to it. He is set to be dismissed, but the club are unable to break the news of a sacking until they have informed the New York Stock Exchange. United have a day off on Monday, so Carrick did arrive at the training – but chiefs Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada did. It appears the writing is on the wall and that in the coming days, Carrick will be gone, in news that will likely please Fernandes. So who will replace the club legend in the dugout? Eddie Howe is a leading contender for the role , while ex-Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann is another in the running. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery , Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler and Antonio Conte are all also admired by United chiefs. However, Hurzeler is understood to not want the job at this time . Meanwhile, Conte would want the role, but he recently released a statement rejecting claims he is in talks with the club. Next Man Utd Manager Odds courtesy of talkSPORT BET and subject to change.
