“Downplayed the Seriousness”: Emmanuel Acho Describes Problem With Robert Saleh’s Explanation for Releasing Jordan Elliott Despite ‘Mature’ Response

The Tennessee Titans released Jordan Elliott after the defensive tackle reportedly retrieved a firearm following an altercation with a Titans teammate. However, head coach Robert Saleh’s explanation for the incident doesn’t seem to have gone down well with everybody. Emmanuel Acho is one such individual who believes Saleh may have downplayed a serious criminal act, and despite showing some maturity in his statement, he should not have compromised the seriousness of the incident. “I love the poise and maturation with which Saleh handled this…but I don’t love how Robert Saleh to some degree downplayed the seriousness of the matter,” Acho said on the “Speakeasy” podcast. “Robert Saleh’s comments on Jordan Elliott were incredibly mature, but I felt like he downplayed the severity of him pulling a gun on a teammate. Nobody should be calling Robert Saleh on Jordan Elliott for a ‘run stopping DT.’ They should be making sure, exclusively, that Elliot gets help,” Acho additionally wrote on X. Robert Saleh’s Comments on the Firearm Incident Earlier, Robert Saleh spoke to the media about why the Tennessee Titans released Jordan Elliott, saying the entire reporting of the incident may have been a “knee-jerk” reaction. “Unfortunately, rules are rules with regard to guns on property, and sometimes it’s far greater than the knee-jerk reaction of kicking somebody when they’re down,” Saleh said to the media. “He’s a good man. Made a terrible lapse in judgment that I recognize as a call for help more than a criminal act,” Saleh went on. “He’s never committed a crime in his entire life and he pulled a gun, in the parking lot.” While Saleh shifted the conversation towards the mental health of athletes in the NFL, unfortunately for Elliott, his chances of returning to the Titans seem very bleak.
