Cole Palmer was not Thomas Tuchel’s biggest Premier League omission from England squad
TalkSport

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has more right to be disappointed over his England omission than Cole Palmer – his form deserved a call-up.
That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Tony Cascarino , who has questioned Thomas Tuchel ‘s decision to once again overlook the in-form Everton star in his 25-man squad for the November internationals.
Dewsbury-Hall is still yet to receive a Three Lions call-up, despite making an impressive start to the season.
He had been heavily tipped to finally earn a place in Tuchel’s latest squad, but was dealt a setback as Borussia Dortmund teenager Jobe Bellingham and Fulham’s Josh King were selected instead.
Despite the disappointment, Dewsbury-Hall quickly bounced back by putting in a fine performance in Everton ‘s 3-1 victory over Coventry.
The 28-year-old got on the scoresheet with a powerful strike to seal a win that lifted the Toffees to fifth in the Premier League table.
Dewsbury-Hall wasn’t the only notable omission from the England squad, with Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Phil Foden also failing to make the grade.
But former Chelsea striker Cascarino believes the Everton star was the most deserving of a call-up out of the three, insisting he would have been furthest up in the pecking order.
‘He’s done better’
Discussing Tuchel’s squad selections on talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast , Cascarino admitted Dewsbury-Hall was the standout omission after playing a starring role for Everton this term.
He said: “I think Dewsbury-Hall should have come in. And I’m not saying it after last night.
“Going back to Everton and talking about players who have done exceptionally well – Dewsbury-Hall has been sensational for Everton in the last month or two. He’s been brilliant to start the season.
“And that’s why other people haven’t been chosen, because if Dewsbury-Hall, I would say, is more entitled than at the moment Phil Foden or Cole Palmer. He’s done better than them.
“So if we’re going on form, you could clearly make a case. And he hasn’t made it, Dewsbury-Hall.
“But I think it’s really on the cusp of him making a squad.”
Despite making 113 Premier League appearances, Dewsbury-Hall has never featured for either England at youth or senior level.
The ex-Leicester and Chelsea man’s continued absence from the Three Lions fold has led to speculation he could play for Ireland – who he is eligible to represent due to his family heritage.
But Dewsbury-Hall has always maintained his ultimate goal is to play for England, previously denying rumours he would switch allegiance .
Dewsbury-Hall: I’ll keep pushing
With his starring role in Everton’s win coming hours after England disappointment, Dewsbury-Hall admitted he was gutted at narrowly missing out, but vowed to continue fighting for a call-up.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It was a disappointing morning, I’m not going to lie. It’s a massive dream of mine to play for my country. I know I was close.
“[I’m] sad, yeah, but really proud of myself and how I have reacted.
“All I can keep doing is putting in good performances and hopefully one day I get the nod, because I’m never going to give up.
“I’ve got the mentality. I’ll keep pushing and pushing and see what happens.”
