England star could be forced to pull out of squad as Thomas Tuchel anxiously awaits scan result

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi could have to pull out of the England squad before the international break begins later this week. Guehi is set to undergo a scan after picking up a hip injury during Man City ‘s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. According to BBC Sport, the result of the scan on his knock is going to determine whether he will join up with the Three Lions. The centre-back was called up by Thomas Tuchel last Friday for the upcoming break that will feature two fixtures. England take on Croatia on Thursday evening and then Spain next Sunday night, with both Nations League games live on talkSPORT. However, they may now have to play without Guehi. Guehi to undergo hip scan The former Chelsea and Crystal Palace defender picked up his injury in Man City’s loss at the City Ground on Saturday, that saw them slip six points behind Arsenal . He was substituted at half time in the game when Enzo Maresca ‘s side were trailing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. And speaking post-match, manager Maresca confirmed: “Guehi asked for the change because of injury.” It seems the issue was causing the 26-year-old enough grief to not be able to continue playing for City over the weekend. BBC report that even after his scan with his club, England will want to assess his fitness too, meaning his chances of playing for the Three Lions so soon after asking to come off may be slim. Tuchel set to lose key man England boss Tuchel won’t be happy if he has to go into the upcoming Nations League fixtures without Guehi. He started in all of the Three Lions’ games in September and October, consistently being named as part of the back four. The ex- Crystal Palace captain also started all but one game at the World Cup in the summer. Everton ‘s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayer Leverkusen ‘s Jarell Quansah will be favourites to replace Guehi should he miss out. However, there may have been doubts over him starting this week either way, considering his poor recent form. Guehi has recently been criticised for his performances , which have included multiple crucial errors leading to goals. He has made three such mistakes so far this season, with Troy Deeney labelling the defender ‘a shadow of himself’ last month.
