Burnley back to square one after talks with ex-Premier League boss over manager’s job
Rob Edwards is not interested in the vacant managerial job at Burnley, talkSPORT understands. The former Wolves boss was interviewed by the Clarets on Monday having previously turned down an approach from them in the summer. And Edwards has resisted their charms again with talks not going any further. Burnley’s search for a new manager follows the sacking of Nicky Hayen after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City. The result leaves Burnley 22nd in the Championship and three points from safety. Hayen won just one of his 12 league matches in charge after succeeding Scott Parker in July. Burnley’s manager search Edwards previously won promotion to the Premier League with Luton Town. The 43-year-old is without a club as he was sacked by Wolves in June following seven months in charge. Edwards failed to avoid relegation from the top-flight during his short tenure at Molineux. Meanwhile, he has won 32 out of 78 Championship matches across his managerial career with Wolves, Watford, Luton and Middlesbrough. Former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan had previously emerged as a contender to replace Hayen. The Spaniard has attracted interest from Burnley having left Valencia last month, although talkSPORT understands the 43-year-old is holding out for a top flight job. Corberan is appreciated by the Clarets’ new chief football officer Diego Lopez. Burnley on brink of unwanted history Burnley’s next outing is at home to Portsmouth on Saturday. The fixture will see the Clarets aiming to avoid setting an unwanted record. They have not won a home league fixture since beating Leeds United in the Premier League on October 18, 2025. Pompey’s visit to Turf Moor will come 377 days on from that victory, with a draw or defeat for Burnley seeing them set a new record for the longest home winless run in England’s top four divisions. The club’s new manager will also be tasked with avoiding relegation to League One this season. Burnley have not played outside the top two tiers since the 1999/2000 campaign. The Clarets have since won promotion to the Premier League five times, with their lowest finish in that period being 19th in the second tier 22 years ago.
