Harry Kane offered a candid assessment of his own performance in Bayern Munich’s eventful 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund.
The newly-crowned Ballon d’Or winner missed a penalty as his side twice threw away a lead in a dramatic Der Klassiker stalemate.
It was Kane’s first appearance since lifting the Golden Ball on Monday, having been an unused sub in a 6-1 win over Magdeburg in midweek.
However, the England captain became the first player in 14 years to miss a penalty in the Der Klassiker between Bayern and Dortmund .
Harry Kane reacts to ‘strange night’ for Bundesliga leaders
The former Tottenham striker could not hide his frustration at full-time, having endured a rare off day at the Allianz Arena.
“Today probably wasn’t my best performance or the team’s best performance, but that’s just life,” Kane told Bulinews in the post-match mixed zone.
“It’s part of being a striker and a footballer.
“I could have been out there playing for another hour today, and the ball wouldn’t hit the back of the net.
“You have to take that on the chin sometimes.”
Kane also reflected on the mood inside the Bayern dressing room, with both Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry suffering injuries.
The Bavarians are already without boss Vincent Kompany, who was only recently discharged from hospital after his terrifying collapse at the club’s training ground.
Kane continued: “It was a strange night all round. We have to see how the injuries are. A couple didn’t look so good.
He added: “We’re at that stage of the season where we have that many games coming up.
“We have to think about using the squad a lot [rotation], and there’s no doubt we will use the squad.
“For Atlético [Madrid], I’ll be ready to go. It’s an important game for us.
“We’re going to a really tough place away from home, so we’re going to need everyone to step up.”
Kane, who has already scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for Bayern across all competitions this season, did at least register an assist for Dayot Upamecano’s goal that restored his side’s advantage after Serhou Guirassy cancelled out Konrad Laimer’s strike.
The 33-year-old was powerless to prevent Dortmund from hitting back a second time, though, with Fabio Silva rescuing a draw late on.
It means that the two teams are level on 18 points with five wins and three draws, but Bayern lead the Bundesliga on goal difference.
