Bompastor disappointed with Chelsea display in Everton draw
Chelsea Women boss Sonia Bompastor admitted her side were not good enough in their 1-1 draw with Everton. Chelsea took the lead through Sandy Baltimore after 28 minutes at Stamford Bridge, but a Lucy Bronze own goal brought Everton level soon after. Bompastor felt Chelsea lacked speed and ruthlessness in attack despite creating a number of opportunities. “The result is really frustrating for us,” she said. “Today the performance was not good enough for us to get a better result. “We were probably too slow. We had 20 shots on goal, eight on target, but even when we shot on target we were not clinical enough, not ruthless enough, and I don’t think we made Everton’s goalkeeper work hard enough. “Also, the connection between the players didn’t really click today.” Chelsea remain unbeaten in all competitions this season and extended their WSL unbeaten run to 17 matches, but Bompastor was keen to focus on the areas that need improvement. “When we have a performance like that, it’s good for us to provide feedback and to be honest and realistic about what happened on the pitch,” she added. “In terms of the defensive aspects, today we were not compact enough as a block. “We didn’t recover enough balls in terms of the high press. So that’s something we need to do better going into the next game. “Without the ball, we conceded an unfortunate goal, but it was the goal that allowed them to get a point from this game. “So it happens sometimes. As much as we are frustrated, now it’s for us to analyse the game, take the feedback, and move on to the next one.”
