Giants drop third quarterback, open roster spot
Yahoo Sports

The New York Giants on Thursday cut third-string quarterback Jake Haener , according to the league’s transactions wire.
Haener has been back-and-forth between the practice squad and active roster. He has not appeared in a game. Most likely, he will land back on the Giants’ practice squad.
The Giants did not immediately fill the roster spot created by dropping Haener. With running back Cam Skattebo dealing with a hamstring injury and not having practiced this week, perhaps one of the two running backs on the practice squad — Phil Mafah or Eric Gray — could be added to the 53-man roster.
The Giants will go with J.J. McCarthy and Jameis Winston as their only two quarterbacks on Sunday.
4 players work out
The Giants worked out four players on Thursday, including three wide receivers and a punter. The players were:
WR Maurice Alexander
WR River Cracraft
WR Steven Sims
P Wes Pahl
Alexander, 29, played four games for the Detroit Lions in 2022. Since then, he has split time on the practice squads of the Lions and Chicago Bears.
Cracraft, 32, is an eight-year veteran with 55 games of NFL experience, including two starts. He played in two games last season for the Washington Commanders.
Sims, 29, is a seven-year veteran with extensive kickoff and punt return experience.
Wide receiver/kick returner Charlie Jones has a hand injury. Perhaps the Giants are looking for protection in the return game.
Pahl is a 24-year-old who was recently dropped from the Cleveland Browns practice squad.
