Lisandro Martínez's future at Manchester United uncertain after board criticism

Manchester United  currently occupies 13th place in the Premier League with six points from six matches, having won only two of nine games this season. This decline in form, which includes a five-game winless streak since September 10, provided the backdrop for Lisandro Martínez 's public critique of the club's hierarchy. Following a 2-0 Champions League group stage loss to Atlético Madrid, the Argentina international criticized the board for failing to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window despite qualifying for the competition. Martínez specifically targeted technical director Jason Wilcox , stating he expected more investment in the squad. While the defender later attributed his comments to anger and frustration in a social media post, the incident has raised questions about his long-term role at Old Trafford. According to reports, there are doubts regarding the renewal of his contract, which expires in the summer. Although Manchester United holds an option to extend the deal by one year, the club is actively seeking new center backs and left backs to revamp its defensive line. This tension follows a summer period where Martínez pushed for a transfer to Atlético Madrid, though the move did not materialize as United did not receive a suitable offer.
