Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts: 3 Reasons for Optimism
Yahoo Sports
The Tennessee Titans are still searching for their first victory of the 2026 NFL season. While there isn't much to be optimistic about following their season-low 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans last week, their upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts presents a few reasons for optimism.
The Titans have also lost six consecutive games against the Colts, making Sunday's AFC South showdown another difficult challenge. However, despite their struggles, here are three reasons Tennessee could have an opportunity to pull off an upset in Indianapolis.
1. The Colts have struggled to stop the run
One of Tennessee's biggest opportunities could come on the ground against an Indianapolis defense that has struggled to contain opposing rushing attacks. The Colts have allowed 5.2 yards per carry through five games, ranking among the worst teams in the NFL in that category.
That could create an opportunity for Tony Pollard and the Titans' rushing attack to establish some consistency after struggling to move the ball for much of this season. Their offensive struggles this season have mostly stemmed from not developing a ground game early, and this matchup presents an opportunity to reverse that fortune.
2. Indianapolis has struggled with turnovers
The Colts have also struggled to protect the football this season, presenting another potential opportunity for Tennessee. Indianapolis enters Week 6 with a minus-six turnover differential, ranking near the bottom of the NFL.
The Tennessee are right above them with a minus-five turnover differential. However, four of their first five opponents have a positive turnover differential. Their one opponent with a negative turnover differential was the only game the Titans won the turnover battle, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Tennessee's defense must capitalize on those same chances in this matchup, especially with their offense that has struggled to consistently produce points.
3. The Colts' pass rush shouldn't be a concern
The Colts' defense has been mediocre across the board this season, and their pass rush is no different. Indianapolis has recorded just 10 sacks through five games, ranking in the bottom half of the NFL.
That could give Ward more time in the pocket after facing consistent pressure from an elite pass-rushing unit in the Texans last week. Ward's better games this season have been the games he has operated with a mostly clean pocket.
Exploiting the Colts' run defense, forcing turnovers, and taking advantage of a non-impressive pass-rushing unit could give Tennessee a chance to remain competitive and potentially secure its first victory of the season. There has to be optimism in a season that hasn't given any reasons to feel that way.
