The Notre Dame-Miami game was a highly anticipated matchup between two potential top NFL quarterback picks in Darian Mensah and CJ Carr. The Notre Dame football quarterback already showcased his arm talent with an amazing touchdown throw to Jordan Faison. It was the first of his two first-half TDs to give the Irish a 17-3 halftime lead. As for Mensah, he had a great chance to get the No. 1-ranked Hurricanes back on track. Down 10-0 in the second quarter, he tried to run it in on 3rd-and-goal on the goal-line. However, he got stuffed by the Fighting Irish defense as several defenders were on hand to bring him down. As a result, the Canes had to settle for a field goal. Carr currently has the upper hand in his matchup with Mensah. The Notre Dame QB has gone 18-of-26 for 205 yards with two TDs at the half. Meanwhile, Mensah has gone 6-of-12 for 49 yards, with 39 rushing yards on five carries. It should be noted that Mensah is missing his top receiving target in Malachi Toney due to surgery on his ankle . The Canes wideout is third in the country with 1,067 receiving yards, second with 73 catches, and tied for second with 13 touchdowns. With Toney out, Mensah has been spreading the ball around. His six first-half completions have gone to six different receivers. With a 14-point lead to protect, the Fighting Irish defense will be in the spotlight in the second half. They will need to continue to limit Mensah in order to complete the major upset against Miami.
