Eagles announce quarterback change ahead of Giants matchup in Week 9
Yahoo Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are making a major NFL quarterback change ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the division-rival New York Giants, turning to Joe Milton as their new starting quarterback.
According to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo, Philadelphia will bench Tanner McKee and hand the starting job to Milton for Sunday’s important divisional contest.
The decision comes as the Eagles continue to struggle following a difficult start to the season, having lost six consecutive games after opening the campaign with back-to-back victories.

Joe Milton gets opportunity to lead Eagles
Milton joined Philadelphia in mid-October after being signed away from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.
The 26-year-old was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in Week 18 that season, starting against the Buffalo Bills and delivering an impressive performance.
Milton threw for 241 yards and a touchdown as New England secured a 32-16 victory over Buffalo, giving the young quarterback an encouraging introduction to professional football.
He subsequently joined Dallas in 2025, serving as Dak Prescott’s backup and appearing in four games.
After being released during the Cowboys’ final roster cuts on August 31, 2026, Milton was assigned to their practice squad before eventually finding another opportunity in Philadelphia.
Now, he will get his chance to prove himself as the Eagles’ starting quarterback.

Tanner McKee benched as Eagles search for answers
McKee has appeared in three games for Philadelphia this season after starting quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with blood clots in his lungs.
However, McKee struggled in his most recent appearance, throwing for just 212 yards and no touchdowns in a disappointing 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 8.
With the Eagles’ losing streak now sitting at six games, the organization has decided to make another change under center.
Milton will have a difficult challenge ahead of him against the Giants, but the opportunity gives him a chance to establish himself while Philadelphia desperately searches for a way to turn its season around.
Sunday’s divisional matchup could prove crucial for an Eagles team desperately needing a victory.
