Producers take immediate action over Jason Kelce’s Eagles bias
Everybody around the NFL knows that the Philadelphia Eagles course through Jason Kelce’s veins. But as an NFL analyst, bias needs to be taken out of the equation. This is something Kelce has yet to master. Part of NFL Network’s broadcasting team that was on the ground in London, England for the Jacksonville Jaguars ‘ 19-17 victory over the Eagles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Kelce would often use the ‘we’ pronoun when commenting on his former team. This wasn’t the first time he had made the on-air gaffe, having corrected himself on Monday Night Football when discussing the Eagles against the Chicago Bears in Week 3. He also referred to the Washington Commanders by their former name ‘Redskins’ during the first London game of the 2026 season . But in the court of public opinion — social media — fans are not taking too well to this. “ Jason Kelce is openly pulling for the Eagles while announcing for NFL Network. He’s moaning “oh gosh” when there was a fumble by Philly. Tough to listen to,” one fan wrote during Sunday’s game. Of course, Kelce spent all 13 years of his NFL career playing center at Lincoln Financial Field, being named a Pro Bowler on seven occasions, and winning Super Bowl LII before retiring in 2024. Prior to the Eagles’ trip across the pond, longtime ESPN producer Jeff Dufine addressed that they are working with Kelce to try and eliminate the ‘we’ bias. “ We’ve tried to get the ‘we’ out of him ,” Dufine said to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Kelce issued his own apology for on-air mistakes Kelce also used the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts alongside his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce , to try and assure Jaguars fans that he would not be biased against them. “I want to assure Jags fans I’ve seen a lot of the Jags accounts already saying that they’re not looking forward to this,” Kelce said. “I will be doing my utmost to give you guys the credit you deserve. Jacksonville’s playing as good as any team right now in the AFC. I really do believe that.” Of course, it is now known that he couldn’t quite help himself on that front. But, aside from his use of pronouns when talking about the Eagles, Kelce’s detailed analysis and reading of games has been highly praised both internally, and externally. “He sees the game really well,” Dufine added. “Just tell me what you’re seeing, and we’ll support you the best way we can throughout the course of the game.” However, Kelce isn’t alone. There are many other former NFL players who have transitioned into media roles within the sport that have made similar mistakes earlier on in their careers, such as FOX Sports’ $375 million main man Tom Brady . It just comes with a lot of learning and practice, and as Kelce continues to get more comfortable in the booth – where he has shown he very much belongs – he should, in theory, eliminate the ‘we’ discourse when covering Eagles games for good.
