Sebastian Tounekti continues to frustrate the Celtic supporters and it was clear on Thursday evening that the support’s patience is wearing very thin indeed when it comes to the Tunisian international winger.
At this moment in time it’s hard to see a way back for the Tounekti, with a January move most likely on the cards, foe an number of reasons including of course the return to the squad of both Jota and Yang and both you would expect would be ahead of Seb in the pecking order.

The 24 year old was signed by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2025 in a £5 million deal from Swedish side Hammarby, and despite showing some signs of promise he’s failed to show that he’s worth a regular run in the Celtic side.
Listen, I’m all for giving players a chance, and I like many other supporters gave Seb that opportunity, but he’s failed to convince us that he has a long term future at the club. Some have even described Seb as the ‘Tunisian Mikey Johnston’ and I can understand why.
Great on his day, and you could make him look like a world beater on a YouTube compilation. But the reality is that he’s a player who flatters to deceive, with his goal contributions limited to low numbers.

There’s a reason that Seb isn’t a regular in the starting XI, and whether that was Brendan Rodgers, Wilfried Nancy or Martin O’Neill, they all held or hold the same opinion of the Tunisian, and that would be that none of them rate him that highly.
Seb is your classic ‘ impact’ player in my opinion, but is far from being a regular starter for Celtic. Bring him on when you need some fresh legs and creativity, but even then he’s still failing to impress despite having the ability to do so.

With Callum Osmand impressing out wide, Martin O’Neill sees the former Fulham youngster as a more viable option despite him being a centre forward by trade, so that speaks volumes for Martin O’Neill’s feelings regarding the Tunisian.

Jota is also returning to full fitness, not to mention Yang, so the Irishman is spoiled for choice on the left hand side of the attack. That would make Seb fourth pick in his favoured position, making a January exit high on the agenda.

Here’s a snapshot of some post match comments from Thursday night…
“There’s levels y’know and Tounekti is nowhere near good enough, Osmand is what you want in a winger and he isn’t even a winger, the instant he came on the game changed, Tounekti offers nothing.”
“Maybe was a bit of luck we were due. Unlucky at penalty. Unlucky not to have Yang or Jota on the left instead of the hopeless Tounekti . For me, when I saw the team it looked like MON was prioritising Killie game.”

“ When he starts with Tounekti and Nygren and just keeps saying he doesn’t know his best team. I can’t believe him.”
“ Brave subs is a stretch. Tounekti is worse than a man doon and he keeps starting him. A couple of moments of individual brilliance from Duran saved him. Much like iheanacho did last season. Papering over the cracks.”
It looks a long road back for Sebastian Tounekti.
