Timberwolves announce disappointing Anthony Edwards injury news

Only a week into the 2026-2027 NBA season, Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will miss time due to injury. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania , Edwards will miss “up to two months” as he will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. The seventh-year guard, whom the Timberwolves drafted first overall in 2020, dealt with injuries to both knees last season. He received an MRI on his right knee in March that revealed inflammation, and he also suffered a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise during the Wolves’ first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets in April. Edwards averaged 33 points through the first four games of Minnesota’s season as the Wolves sit at 3-1. The pairing of former Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball and Edwards proved an early success, as the team seemed to mesh well, losing only to the Cleveland Cavaliers in an overtime game on Monday. Edwards was seen grabbing his right knee in Sunday’s win over Toronto and was listed on the injury report Monday. The Timberwolves weren’t too concerned about the injury given the long season, per head coach Chris Finch. “It’s a daily situation,” Finch said, via The Athletic . “I don’t think there’s any long-term concern.” Despite the early setback, Edwards’ business team remains optimistic and confirmed his focus. “Like we’ve talked about before, there’s only one thing that matters to Ant. It’s not about individual accolades, All-NBAs, or anything like that. It’s a single focus — winning a championship,” Justin Holland, Edwards’ business manager, said, via The Athletic . “We’ve seen in a short time what the team is capable of, and know big things are ahead when all are 100 percent.” The Wolves won’t be left in bad hands, as they have several skilled guards who can step up. Ball will take more shots without Edwards and may also get a better feel for the team, as the reins could be in his hands until late December.
