Leeds 'appalled' by alleged racist abuse aimed at Jayden Bogle after Mathys Tel tackle
Leeds United have condemned alleged online racist abuse aimed at defender Jayden Bogle after Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League win against Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road . Bogle avoided any booking despite planting his studs onto the Achilles of Spurs attacker Mathys Tel during a first-half tackle. On-field referee John Brooks did not penalise the Leeds wing-back, and following a lengthy VAR review, officials determined there was no serious foul play. In a statement released on Sunday, Leeds said: "Leeds United Football Club are appalled at the disgusting, racist social media abuse Jayden Bogle suffered following Saturday’s Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur. "Leeds United condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. There is no place for racism in football or society. "The club will work with the Premier League and relevant authorities to identify the individuals and push for the strongest possible action to be taken against them. "Jayden has the full and unconditional support of the club and his team-mates, and we all stand with him at this time. Nobody should ever be subjected to racist abuse." Tottenham said they were "disgusted" to hear of the abuse. "We have offered Leeds United our support in identifying those responsible and we will pursue every available avenue to ensure they are identified and face the full consequences of their actions," Spurs said in a statement. The Premier League added on X: "Anybody found guilty of committing discriminatory abuse will face club bans and criminal prosecution." Tel received prolonged medical attention following Bogle’s challenge and was subsequently replaced by Dominic Solanke. It is understood the north London club will write to Pro Ref to request an explanation as to why Bogle was not shown a red card. During his post-match press conference, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi avoided directly addressing whether Bogle deserved a red card. However, the Italian voiced frustration over Brooks’ officiating during the match and confirmed the club are awaiting updates on the severity of Tel’s injury. After Tel was forced off, Leeds went on to win the game thanks to a late goal from Noah Okafor as Tottenham’s three-match winning run came to an end.
