Man United boss Michael Carrick issues Lisandro Martinez squad decision for Leeds clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez is available for selection this weekend. Martinez slammed the Man United board after his side were beaten by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in a bombshell interview . But Carrick has now drawn a line under the drama amid reports that the defender, who apologised in a statement revealing positive talks with the club on Thursday , has been fined. “It’s done,” the United boss said in his press conference ahead of the Premier League clash against Leeds on Sunday. “We’ve moved on from that. It was one of those things. As a group we’ve moved on. It’s really not a drama for the group. The squad have trained really well and they are in good spirits. “It was pretty simple. We understood the situation. Licha understood he made a mistake. We have a really good feeling from the club. Results wise it hasn’t gone our way, but the spirit and togetherness. We can see in the group we want to do something with this situation. We’ve moved on. Genuinely. There is a freshness about the group. “He [Martinez] is available.” What did Martinez say? Martinez’s rant came pouring out during his post-match interview with Amazon Prime Video in Madrid earlier this week. It was reportedly sparked by a decision to play Ayden Heaven at left-back in the Champions League game Man United lost 2-0. He said: “I have to control myself a lot. But sometimes it’s a reflection of our club at the moment. We did it last season and now we expect more from the top. “To bring more players, to compete. Other teams bring in many more players. I expect more from everyone… 100 per cent I expected more from our technical director. “I have to be honest and also the players have to do more but it’s just important when you make a strong squad for this type of night.” Martinez added: “Last season we created a base to build an amazing team. It’s annoying and disappointing to come here and I’m not seeing my team get an amazing result here.” On whether Carrick has not been backed enough, he continued: “I don’t think so. He does his best. The team knows how you play, every detail and if you don’t change the next season, it’s a big problem. “You start changing, changing, changing manager, but what about other areas. I can’t say more. It’s easy to say the players but also we have to see other areas.” What else has Carrick said on the outburst? Martinez called out United’s technical director Jason Wilcox specifically, asking why the club didn’t sign more players. In his press conference, Carrick was asked whether he thinks Wilcox should speak out more publicly, with senior players in the Red Devils squad understood to also be frustrated . He replied: “I don’t think that’s for me to say. I’ve got no problem with how it is for me sitting here and talking to you guys and leading the group and the club from this position. “We’re a really tight-knit group.”
