Coventry star jokes Frank Lampard probably gets fed up with the question he always asks him
Jack Rudoni is spearheading Coventry City’s Premier League survival bid – and it’s come as little surprise to the player himself. The 25-year-old has scored in three of his last four top-flight games and is the only Sky Blues star with multiple league goals this season. The former Huddersfield Town player scored Coventry’s third in their 3-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday. It was a result that handed Frank Lampard’s side just their third league win of the season, and crucially, eased their relegation fears . Both Coventry and Sunderland came into the crunch game occupying the bottom two places in the table, but it was the hosts who lifted themselves out of the relegation zone and into 16th with a victory. “Yeah, massive win for us,” Rudoni said on talkSPORT Breakfast with Jeff Stelling and Andy Townsend. “I know a few people are saying obviously it was against another side at the bottom, but every game in the Premier League is obviously big for us. “Massive win, so we’re buzzing to get three points, another win at home in front of the fans – onto Friday [against Everton] now!” Rudoni has come to the Premier League party in recent weeks, with all three of his goals coming in his last four appearances. Coventry’s No.5 opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 4-1 win over Newcastle last month, while he also equalised for the newly-promoted team in an eventual 3-1 defeat at Tottenham. “Yeah, 100 per cent [really enjoying his football],” Rudoni continued. “I love playing in this team, in this system, with the manager in charge, the way he lets me operate. “I’m enjoying every minute; we’ve got a great group of boys as well. “We have some talent, and I think we’ve adapted alright so far. “ We’ve had a tough start , and we’re really learning each game, and we picked up some really good wins. “So yeah, hopefully we can continue that now.” Has Jack Rudoni ‘s form surprised him? The attacking midfielder was integral to Coventry winning the Championship last term with seven goals and six assists. However, the opening day defeat to Premier League champions Arsenal was the first time he had played at the top level . Now after just nine top-flight appearances, he looks a natural fit, but Rudoni added: “It’s not surprised me. I mean, I believe in myself a lot. I’ve always believed that I’m gonna play in the Premier League. “So it’s almost like it was just taking those steps to get there. Now I’m here, I believe that I should be here, and I’ve worked hard to get here, so yeah, I like the big stage. “The bigger the stage, the better for me. “Every game, I can’t wait to get out there and be able to show what I can do and hopefully score some more goals and get some assists to help us retain our Premier League status.” Does Frank Lampard set targets? “He doesn’t set me targets,” Rudoni told talkSPORT. “I set my own targets, but I don’t like to cap anything because I believe if you put your mind to anything and work hard enough, you can achieve whatever you want. “So I kind of see it as the sky’s the limit for me, but I have little milestones; I mean, I’d love to get to double figures. “But the gaffer doesn’t really set me targets, but he’ll work with me a lot and work with me closely, give me lots of advice. “I’m always asking him about when he was playing; he probably gets fed up with the amount I ask him questions,” Rudoni laughed. “I’m always asking to try and learn, and he’s helped me so much, in and around the box and just in my general gameplay.”
