Man City’s ‘irrefutable evidence’ revealed in full including new information
Manchester City remain adamant a re-examination of evidence will aid their efforts in being acquitted. City will reportedly argue the independent commission wrongfully dismissed multiple Abu Dhabi government documents, such as bank statements, government records and receipts. Why Manchester City are adamant guilty verdict will be overturned City claim the documents, according to The Telegraph, are proof the Abu Dhabi government was the source that stumped up the cash for a variety of sponsorship deals under scrutiny. The club also states it possesses recent evidence from the Abu Dhabi government that reiterates the accuracy of the initial documents. That evidence is expected to be used by City to challenge the appeal panel to determine the legitimacy of Abu Dhabi government documents. City appealed the independent commission’s verdict after it found the club guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 to 2018. When confirming the club had lodged its appeal, City stated the commission’s opinion contained ‘multiple clear material errors of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.’ “The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all its positions, relating to this case,” a City statement added. A time frame for City’s appeal to be concluded remains uncertain, although Premier League clubs are hopeful sanctions will be enacted this season. There is speculation City could be handed a significant points deduction that would ensure they spend multiple seasons in the Championship. Stefan Borson explains possible timeline for Manchester City’s sanctions However, football financial expert Stefan Borson expressed concern the stringent sanctions for City may not be brought in immediately, especially amid whispers the sanction hearing will run concurrently to the club’s appeal process. “If it was something that is irreversible, i.e. relegating them and then being corrected later, City would argue that was irreparable damage,” Borson said on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan. “Therefore I think it’s unlikely any sanction is implemented before the expiry of the appeal process on sanction. “So I do think that it seems to me that you have to go through the various stages, they do have to complete those appeals before the actual punishment is laid down to City. I just can’t see any other way. “City will say that until the appeal has been decided, there is risk of irreparable harm and I think that’s something they will accept.” Amid the off-field scandal, City’s players will seek a return to form in Champions League action on Tuesday evening at home against AEK Athens. City were beaten 4-2 by Paris Saint-Germain in their last European outing but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Ipswich on Saturday. Antoine Semenyo will not be available for AEK’s visit after he sustained a knee injury against Ipswich, although Erling Haaland is available despite limping off at full-time.
