PREVIEW: Wolves face Portsmouth for the first time since 2010

Portsmouth will travel to Molineux on Tuesday evening for the first time in 17 years to face Wolves in a rescheduled Championship fixture. With a game in hand, a win for Cesar Peixoto’s side will see them return to the top five of the Championship table, having amassed 17 points from 10 matches so far this term. Wolves claimed a 2-1 victory over Burnley last time out, thanks to goals from Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa, giving the Old Gold all three points. Meanwhile, Portsmouth sit 13th in the table, but John Mousinho’s side come into this fixture in good form, having won their last two games, a 3-2 victory against Sheffield United and a 1-0 win over Norwich on the weekend. Lopez has made a fantastic start to the 2026/27 season at Wolves, with the young midfielder being one to watch tomorrow night after scoring five and assisting twice in 10 matches. Ebou Adams has emerged as a standout performer for Portsmouth this season, scoring twice and assisting once, and leading in tackles and defensive contributions. Following his MCL injury against Everton, Wolves director of performance, Phil Hayward, has confirmed that Raul Jimenez will undergo surgery on his knee, ruling the Mexican striker out of the squad until at least January. Other notable admissions include Rodrigo Gomes and Adam Armstrong, who will both miss tomorrow night’s clash through injury. For Pompey, it’s a long list of injuries, with Keshi Anderson expected to be sidelined for up to two months of action following their 3-2 victory over Sheffield United, according to Mousinho. This is the first meeting between the clubs since May 2010, with Pompey being unbeaten in their past six visits to Molineux, five of which ended in draws. The match is due to take place at 7:45 pm BST on Tuesday night and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
