Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg isn’t interested in playing it safe. After exchanging heated words with Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić on opening night, the fearless 24-year-old forward is already eager for Round 2. When reporters asked Lendeborg if he was excited for Friday’s upcoming rematch against the Lakers, he did not hesitate to make his stance clear. “Absolutely. Absolutely. Yes, I am. I’ll talk about that on Friday,” Lendeborg said. The feud erupted during the season opener on Oct. 21, when the Lakers handed Golden State a rough 127-105 blowout loss. Lendeborg had a modest NBA debut, recording 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists in 29 minutes while shooting 5-of-11 from the field. Meanwhile, Dončić posted 28 points to guide Los Angeles to a comfortable victory. Following the game, Lendeborg voiced his frustration , telling reporters he “lost all respect” for Dončić due to his constant complaining to officials throughout the night. However, Lendeborg has completely flipped the narrative over his last few games. Golden State star Stephen Curry recently praised the rookie as the “full package,” and Lendeborg’s elite play on the floor has backed up every word. He delivered a monster performance against the Denver Nuggets, racking up 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists while knocking down 12-of-13 free throws in a 134-114 victory. Lendeborg kept that momentum rolling against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, dropping 26 points and nine rebounds in a hard-fought 119-114 win. Through his first five games, the versatile rookie is averaging a stunning 22.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He has quickly established himself as a dynamic offensive force in the Warriors’ starting rotation. With Friday’s NBA Cup clash on the horizon, Lendeborg isn’t shrinking from the spotlight. Whether Dončić suits up or sits out due to back tightness, Golden State’s rising star is locked in and ready to bring the heat once again.
