‘Throwing deli meat’ – Rams’ safety shares disrespectful take on Justin Herbert after latest win
Yahoo Sports

Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake had a damning review of Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s form in 2026 after a recent 24-9 win over the winless Chargers.
The Chargers are the NFL’s only remaining winless team in the 2026 season, with the Jim Harbaugh-led franchise sitting at 0-7 after the first eight weeks of the season.
Their latest loss came at the hands of preseason Super Bowl favourites and town rivals, the Rams, but what was worse was how Rams players left the game talking about Herbert.
Justin Herbert’s passes compared to deli meat by Rams player
In a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, Rams safety Quentin Lake spoke bluntly about Chargers QB Herbert’s current form.
“He was throwing deli meat out there. Like bro. I don’t know what is going on, but we knew we were gonna get a couple. At least one.”
It’s a common joke among NFL fans to compare a QB’s bad passes with them throwing meat or sandwiches, but a fellow player openly saying that about an active QB is a damning moment.
There is not even any pre-existing animosity between Lake and Herbert, which makes this worse, since this is genuinely what Lake thinks of the 28-year-old Herbert, who is a two-time Pro Bowler.
The Chargers’ offence has been the worst in the NFL all year, with everyone debating if Herbert deserves the lion’s share of the blame or new OC Mike McDaniel, who might have overcomplicated things for a Chargers team that went 11-6 last season.
Herbert’s stats this season paint a sorry picture, as he is 131/212 on pass attempts for 1,398 yards, five TDs and a league-leading 10 interceptions. He has a terrible 69.3 passer rating and has been sacked 23 times this season.
While injuries and general weakness in the Chargers’ offensive line have worsened the situation for McDaniels and Herbert, their offensive relationship is proving to be untenable this season.
