Ryan Reynolds releases statement amid Wrexham turmoil on and off pitch

Ryan Reynolds has insisted there is togetherness at Wrexham despite a difficult season thus far. The Red Dragons began the 2026/27 campaign weeks after narrowly missing out on the Championship play-off spots by just two points. Wrexham are 15th in the current standings and six points off eighth, which is now the final play-off standing as per the new expansion . A 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday means they have won only three matches since a 3-0 victory over Millwall on September 2. Earlier in the week, Wrexham announced the exit of chief executive Michael Williamson , with director Shaun Harvey now their acting CEO. Williamson spent two years at the club and oversaw their promotion from League One into the Championship. However, whilst there is change off the pitch and slowed success on it, co-owner Reynolds remains optimistic for the future. Reynolds statement on Wrexham “An intense one for @wrexham_afc today,” he said on Instagram after the draw with Wolves at the Racecourse Ground. “What a show the boys put on. I can’t believe how far along the new Kop stand is. It feels like a living, breathing promise of the greatest days yet to come. “So much to look forward to… There’s togetherness in the stands and with the boys on the pitch — but more than anything there’s just something about this place. “Some of the best days of my life have been spent in this stadium, standing next to @robmac ( Rob Mac , co-owner). “Today was one of them. Up The Town.” Wrexham have only known success since Hollywood actors Reynolds and Mac finalised their takeover in February 2021. They won the National League title two years later, before earning back-to-back promotions to confirm a place in the Championship. However, it was always likely that their momentum would come to a halt when they reached the second tier. The Championship is widely argued to be the most competitive league in football, with the promotion picture constantly changing. It means that, even though they sit in the bottom half of the table, Wrexham could enter the top eight if results go their way. But talkSPORT reported on Tuesday that manager Phil Parkinson is under growing pressure at the club. The owners have huge respect for Parkinson, and sources have said that Reynolds and Mac essentially promised him a job for life. Yet their new sporting director Steve Nickson has been hired to look at things with a more dispassionate view. It’s understood that England and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is open to taking the job if Parkinson was to leave.
