Travis Kelce breaks down what Mike MacDonald has done with the Seattle Seahawks which makes them so difficult to beat.
The Kansas City Chiefs were handed their first loss of the season in pretty spectacular fashion by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The reigning Super Bowl champions won 20-3, completely shutting off Kenneth Walker III and Patrick Mahomes.
It was no mean feat, as both have been in fine form to start the year. Travis Kelce has been looking like his old self for the most part, too. He wasn’t able to do much either, though. Kelce had four receptions in the game for 44 yards. He spoke about what makes the Seattle defence special.
Travis Kelce breaks down Mike MacDonald’s defensive preference which makes Seattle tough
The Seattle Seahawks have been the NFL’s best defence by total yards allowed this season, giving up just 233.9 yards per game. That’s No. 1 in the league. They’ve been excellent at limiting their opponents, with a sizeable gap between them and the second-ranked Minnesota Vikings.
Kelce, in conversation with his brother Jason on their podcast, addressed how head coach Mike MacDonald is able to make that happen.
“I feel like every time I face McDonald, he stays true to his style, and he has the personnel to be able to execute how he wants to,” the tight end said. “He’s going to kind of want to keep everything in front of him in terms of the back end of things.
“But he’s always got an unbelievable D-line that just makes it tough to get to the second level on your double teams. It really forces you to be great on the backside of runs where, it’s typically the ball ends up coming back to that gap.”
MacDonald became the first head coach in NFL history to win the Super Bowl while still being the primary defensive play-caller. The Seahawks are just 4-3 this season, but with their defense, one can never really write them off.
