Alabama cuts ties with defensive back after latest arrest

The Alabama Crimson Tide faces new controversy as a player has been charged with allegedly harassing a police officer online. As the Tide prepared for their matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies, defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. watched from home after being suspended. However, on Monday, head coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters that Kirkpatrick Jr. was “not with us,” and the program has since cut ties with him amid his pending criminal charges. Kirkpatrick Jr. was charged with harassing communications and doxing, both misdemeanors. DeBoer released a statement on Tuesday announcing the split. “After gathering more information on the situation, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will no longer be a part of our program,” DeBoer said in a statement, via ESPN . “He did not live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for this team and our players.” Kirkpatrick Jr. allegedly sent the officer a profane message that included, “text me back don’t be no b—-!” according to documents obtained by WBRC and The Tuscaloosa Thread. Kirkpatrick allegedly posted a photo of the officer and his family to his Facebook page with the caption, “Dis him?” which caused “severe concern for the overall safety and well-being of himself and his family,” given Kirkpatrick’s “substantial audience and public following” as an Alabama football player, the officer claimed in a criminal complaint, according to TMZ . Kirkpatrick Jr. was arrested last year on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding, and he was suspended for the remainder of the 2025 season. The officer he allegedly targeted was involved in that arrest. Kirkpatrick appeared in Alabama’s first seven games of the 2026 season, recording four tackles before his departure. The Kirkpatrick name has rung bells around campus before, as his father, Dre Kirkpatrick, played for the Crimson Tide from 2009 to 2011 and won two national titles.
