Feeding Derrick Henry is the cure for the Ravens' Halloween horrors

Yahoo Sports
The Baltimore Ravens offense looked disjointed in their 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon. Yet many refuse to analyze the abysmal play-calling and strategy of offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who refuses to rely on running back Derrick Henry's talents. For yet another consecutive week, Henry received only 17 carries, and the Bengals defense, which allowed the Miami Dolphins 24 points in Week 6, held the Ravens to just one touchdown and 13 total points in Week 7. Doyle isn't living up to the hype, and his stats are starting to mirror those of his predecessor, Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken. While the Ravens tallied 359 yards of total offense in Week 7, the lack of points and the determination to make quarterback Tyler Huntley the hero point directly to Doyle's game plan. Despite winning the time of possession in Sunday's contest, the Ravens scored 22 fewer points than their opponent. Perhaps Doyle was overly credited for his tenure with the Chicago Bears , who sit at 5-2 in what is arguably the NFL's most competitive division (the NFC North). Bears head coach Ben Johnson has continued to thrive without Doyle on staff, and Johnson's innate offensive brilliance may have given Doyle more credit than he's shown himself to deserve. Ultimately, the Ravens were without their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson, and this may warrant Doyle some grace. However, the Ravens roster is still capable of producing an offense that yields more touchdowns and scoring drives than sacks. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter needs to revisit the offensive strategy and advise Doyle to get back to the simple things, including making Henry the primary focus of the offense and shortening the play sheet to run the system more efficiently. A renewed scheme should make it mandatory for Henry to get at least 22 carries a game.
