Harry Kane projected for immediate financial windfall after Ballon d’Or triumph
Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph could see him get handsomely rewarded in the new Bayern Munich contract he has agreed to sign. That’s according to German football expert Raphael Honigstein, who gave an insight into the England captain’s future after he scooped football’s most prestigious individual prize on Monday evening. Kane became the first Englishman to lift the trophy since Michael Owen in 2001 by finishing ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal . The Bayern talisman was crowned the world’s best player after scoring a stunning 73 goals in 65 matches for club and country combined during the 2025/26 season. It marks a career-high for Kane, who has soared to new heights since moving to Germany in 2023, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles and firing in a staggering 156 goals in 159 outings. Now in the last 12 months of his current contract at Bayern, the 33-year-old is set to extend his hugely successful stay at the club. talkSPORT understands that he has agreed to sign a new three-year deal at Bayern that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029. New Kane contract details revealed While Kane is widely expected to commit his future in Bavaria for another three years, German football expert Honigstein has now revealed that a two-year contract is actually more likely. Bayern have a strict policy that typically sees them only offer one-year contract extensions to players over 30 years old, but they would make an exception for their talisman. And Honigstein teased that Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph could earn him a raise on his current, eye-watering £380,000-a-week wages . He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “He hasn’t signed it yet. I think there’s an extra few thousand euros or a million euros due now – could be. “I’m slightly joking, but it’s all but done. It’s just a question of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. “There’s long been a recognition from both parties that this is a setup that they want to continue.” Though Honigstein admitted Kane is unlikely to receive his dream three-year contract, he refused to rule out other clauses being included that could see him extend his stay further. The German continued: “The big talking point was, is it three years or is it two years? Because Bayern as a club, as much as they love him they think, ‘[He’s] 33, we don’t want to commit ourselves too long’. “He wants three years. It’s going to be two, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some kind of option in there that gives flexibility to both parties. “If he carries himself the way he has, keeps improving – he still looks incredibly fit – who knows? Maybe in three years time, he’s still a handful of a player.” Should Kane’s new contract ultimately turn out to be a two-year deal, he will be one month shy of his 35th birthday when it expires. Meanwhile, he will be approaching 36 if he pens a three-year extension, but the England striker has shown no signs of slowing down since joining Bayern aged 30 in 2023. Last season, he scored 61 goals in 51 matches across all competitions and won the European Golden Boot with 36 league strikes. His time in Germany has also seen him end his infamous trophy drought, with Bundesliga glory in the 2024/25 campaign Kane’s first career silverware , scooped at the age of 31.
