Leeds United have condemned the racist abuse sent to Jayden Bogle following their match against Tottenham on Saturday.
The club revealed that Bogle was subject to racism on social media after the game that saw them beat Spurs 1-0.
Leeds confirmed they would be working with the Premier League to identify the people behind the messages.
And they will be pushing for strong sanctions to be handed out to those responsible for sending the abuse.
Leeds condemn racist abuse sent to Bogle
In a statement released on Sunday, the club wrote: “Leeds United Football Club are appalled at the disgusting, racist social media abuse Jayden Bogle suffered following Saturday’s Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
“Leeds United condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms.
“There is no place for racism in football or society.
“The club will work with the Premier League and relevant authorities to identify the individuals and push for the strongest possible action to be taken against them.
“Jayden has the full and unconditional support of the club and his teammates, and we all stand with him at this time.
“Nobody should ever be subjected to racist abuse.”
The messages sent to Bogle on social media after the match included racist comments and offensive emojis.
Messages wishing physical abuse on the 26-year-old’s wife and children were also sent to him.
Bogle was involved in a flashpoint in the match between Leeds and Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
Whilst tackling Spurs’ Mathys Tel in the first half of the clash at Elland Road, he caught the forward on the ankle .
Tel was left rolling around in pain as VAR reviewed the incident that showed Bogle catching his opponent with his studs up.
Eventually though, he avoided any punishment despite huge appeals for a red card, and he went on to play 89 minutes.
Meanwhile, Tel was unable to continue and was substituted with his knock caused by the Leeds defender’s tackle.
Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi confirmed it was a ‘bad injury’ for the Frenchman when speaking post-match.
