Phoenix Suns' Dillon Brooks ejected from NBA Cup game against Nuggets
Yahoo Sports
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks received a flagrant 2 foul and was ejected in the third quarter of Friday’s game against the Denver Nuggets in NBA Cup group play at Mortgage Matchup Center.
Brooks kicked out his right leg upward in attempting a jump shot and caught Nuggets guard Jamal Murray in the groin area. Brooks and Murray are from Canada and teammates on the Canadian national team.
Brooks was first called for an offensive foul as Murray went down in pain and gingerly jogged back to the Denver bench.
The play went under review and it was concluded Brooks “overtly” kicked out his leg, lead official Tyler Ford announced over the PA system.
Flagrant 2 fouls are viewed as being unnecessary and excessive.
Ejected with 8:05 left in the third quarter, Brooks will be fined a minimum of $2,000 as the incident will be reported to the league office.
Brooks scored a season-high 22 points in 20 minutes on 9-of-12 shooting with 20 coming in the first half. He went 4-of-6 from 3, but Brooks committed four fouls.
Brooks had a flagrant 1 and an unnecessary contact foul in Monday’s loss at Oklahoma City. He led the NBA in technical fouls last season with 17.
