Texans lose wide receiver to season-ending injury
Yahoo Sports

The Houston Texans have suffered a major injury blow heading into Week 8, with wide receiver Jaylin Noel expected to miss the rest of the NFL season because of a turf toe injury. Noel was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, and the Houston Chronicle reported that he will undergo surgery on his toe.
The timing is particularly difficult for Houston, as Noel had emerged as an important part of the offense through the first seven games of the NFL season. His absence now creates another significant challenge for a Texans team already dealing with injuries on offense.

Jaylin Noel was having a major impact
Noel was leading Houston with 331 receiving yards through seven games, recording 19 receptions and two touchdowns. He also served as the Texans’ primary return man, giving the team another way to utilize his explosiveness.
The injury occurred during Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. Noel was returning a kick in the fourth quarter when his toe twisted as he was tackled. He did not return to the game and was later seen wearing a walking boot.
The Texans initially placed Noel on injured reserve, which guarantees at least a four-game absence, but further testing revealed the injury was serious enough to require surgery. The expectation is now that he will not return this season.
That makes Noel the second Texans wide receiver to suffer a season-ending injury this year. Houston previously lost Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL during training camp.

Texans will need other receivers to step up
Houston does have options to help compensate for Noel’s absence. Tank Dell returned to action in Week 7 after missing an extended period because of a knee injury, while the Texans recently acquired Marvin Harrison Jr. in a trade with Arizona.
Dell could become particularly important because of his ability to work from the slot, the same area where Noel had been making an impact. Xavier Hutchinson is another option for Houston, while Nico Collins remains a major part of the passing attack.
Noel’s loss nevertheless leaves a noticeable hole. He was not only producing as a receiver but also providing the Texans with a big-play element and contributing in the return game. Houston ranked fourth in the NFL in passing yards and second in plays of at least 20 yards entering its Week 8 bye, with Noel’s explosiveness playing a role in that production.
The Texans are now 2-5 and will have their bye this week, giving the coaching staff additional time to determine how the receiver rotation will look without Noel. Houston will need several players to contribute more if the offense is going to overcome another significant loss.
