The 4 Best Barcelona x Spotify Kit Collaborations
With the latest special edition Spotify kit with Tyler, the Creator released ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico, we look back at some of our favorite installments of the innovative kit sponsorship series.  Remember when Atletico Madrid were sponsored by Sony in the early 2000s, and each shirt promoted a different film? Well, Barcelona and Spotify have been bringing those vibes back to football since they launched their partnership in 2022. While the Spotify logo adorns Barcelona’s kits for most of the season, the club has rolled out various special editions for El Clasico in collaboration with some of the biggest music artists in the world. The latest drop, which enlisted Tyler, the Creator , was the most in-depth yet, with the three-time Grammy award-winning artist serving as a creative director of sorts rather than just providing a logo to slap across the front of the jersey. The collection revealed a home shirt, but also an 11-part capsule collection made up of football shirts and lifestyle clothing. This is the ninth release between the Catalan club and Swedish streaming giant, and Tyler joins the likes of Drake , Rosalía , and Travis Scott to don the front of the iconic red and blue kit. The all-important question, though, is which of the nine are the best? I’ve sat down and picked my favorites from the collaborations over the years, and I’m here to give my thoughts as to why they work. Time to dive in. GOLF x Tyler, the Creator Starting with Tyler, the Creator, not because it’s the newest, but because it is one of the better releases. Is this based solely on the shirt itself, or the whole collection? Well, I can’t lie, the latter has had significant influence. The blue shirt is a great addition to the 11-piece collection and is giving strong ’90s vibes. Ultimately, the home shirt is nothing special, with the very simple GOLF logo across the middle, but the release comes with a cultural space where, for 10 days, it’ll showcase culture, music and creativity in Barcelona. This is something I love to see because it means that the impact of the release is wider than just fashion, and is ingrained into the cultural scene of the city as well. Travis Scott The “Cactus Jack” sponsor across the shirt looked great and, for me, is a lot better than the GOLF logo. However, just like the GOLF collab, the wider release is at play here. The brown hoodies and windbreakers that came with the shirt elevated the collection massively. However, the showstopper in the collaboration is the reimagined ’00/01 retro shirt, which includes an airbrushed skeleton design, and there is big lettering and numbering on the back. Could I wear any of the collection? Maybe the home shirt would be good down at five-a-side, but looking at the price on StockX, I doubt I’ll be wearing it anytime soon. The Rolling Stones I had to include this one, right? The iconic logo from the legendary band emblazoned on the chest is a must-have on the list of best collaborations with Barça. The tongue-and-lips logo, I feel, is seen around a lot of places. However, to have it on a football shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world, it just makes sense. Does it look the best out of all the designs? Maybe not, but the feeling of just how cool it is is enough for me. Rosalia I am putting this collab on the list for two reasons. The first is that Rosalía’s logo looks the best on the shirt out of the lot. The second is because of the singer’s connection to Catalonia. She was born in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, just northwest of Barcelona. To me, that offers a deeper connection with the collaboration as well. Whilst it looks reminiscent of a bus seat in the UK, the shirt itself is one of Barcelona’s better efforts in recent years. However, the bar isn’t exactly high, especially given that the year before was the case of the 2021/22 monstrosity. Rosalia’s collaboration works with the kit, though, and it provides a nice alternative shirt for the Catalan side. Is it as hyped as a collab with Travis Scott or Tyler, the Creator? No, not at all. Should that matter? No. The partnership between Barcelona and Spotify for shirt sponsors has been extended to 2030, with stadium naming rights until 2034. So, that means we could have a lot more collaborations with artists on the horizon. Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Karol G and Olivia Rodrigo make up the rest of the list, but who will follow Tyler, the Creator is yet to be unveiled. Taylor Swift’s name is mentioned online, but that’s just fan rumors/wishes, as well as Bad Bunny being mentioned on forums. For me, I’d love to see the likes of Fred again.., Djo, or even Nu Genea, which might be a long shot for the Neapolitan DJ duo. Regardless, they make good tunes. Who would you like to see as the next Barcelona x Spotify shirt? Do you want to see Taylor Swift or Bad Bunny? Or would you rather the collab ends? Drop your shouts in the comments.
